At Home Teeth Whitening: Does it Work? + Giveaway
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen in my IG stories I was testing out something very exciting and I'm so happy to finally share it with all of you.
A lot of people ask me why I don't show my teeth when I smile. I don't know if it's just preference or maybe deep down I've been a bit insecure about my teeth. Let's just say I think of myself as Mona Lisa, the woman with the enigmatic smile.
On top of that, I love coffee and tea, so this could be problematic if you're trying to keep your teeth nice and white. Surprisingly, my teeth weren't as bad as they should've been considering I drink coffee several times throughout the day.
Anyways, a few months ago, I had the opportunity to get a set of in-home teeth whitening trays by Smile Brilliant and quite honestly, I was curious about this new method using custom made trays. I was also scared as I have very sensitive teeth and didn't know what to expect since I had used whitening strips in the past with little to no results and a certain level of sensitivity.
1. THE PROCESS
The first step to my brighter smile was making my dental impressions which I create with the kit I received. This part was crucial to creating the perfect trays.
2. TRAY CREATION
After I made my impressions I mailed them back to Smile Brilliant's lab and they proceeded to create my trays. I thought it was amazing how it took them about less than 5 days to create them and sent back to me which is a big plus.
3. A BRIGHTER SMILE AT HOME
After I received my trays, I couldn't wait to dive in and try them out. I first applied the whitening gel into the trays after brushing my teeth with water only and then inserted the trays, leaving them on my teeth for 45 minutes. Afterwards, I rinsed and brushed my teeth with non-whitening toothpaste and applied the desensitizing gel for about 20 minutes to minimize sensitivity.
I did this mostly before night-time but also on my lazy days. It's so easy and comfortable you will barely know they are in. Think about them as retainers if you may.

4. THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY
In comparison to the strips I've tried, the tray method is quite effective if you're looking to target all of your teeth. I feel like when I used strips they didn't quite whiten evenly, leaving some teeth more yellow which honestly wasn't very appealing. This is where the trays are a winner in my book since they give me that even look I've been looking for.
Now, as far the ugly, with any teeth whitening seems like my sensitivity is still present but I guess this is totally normal since our pores are open due this process. Despite of this, Smile Brilliant does include a desensitizing gel you can leave on longer to minimize this.
5. THE RESULTS
After two weeks of whitening, these are my final results and I couldn't be happier about my smile. I definitely see how much brighter my teeth look even when wearing a bold lip-color.
